Sweltering Southern Summer

Ok, it's hot. I mean really hot. I mean I sweat more than any Southern woman should. It's just not ladylike, but glory day, it's HOT!

We have spent the last several days indoors praising Jesus for the air conditioner. We try to sneak outside in the late afternoon. The kids get themselves soaking wet with the water hose and I sit in shade and read a book. Almost makes it bearable. Almost. And, due to the sweltering southern summer the kids have spent a little too much time in front of the tv. It never works well for them. They both end up super sassy and bored and extremely whiny. I don't do whiny. So, we've limited it to a show and then a movie with popcorn later in the afternoon. Seems to be better. But it's still hot.

As summer is in full swing, our calendar seems to fill up quickly. Scott has had the opportunity to play at some great events recently. The one I got to attend was Riverfest in Gadsden, AL. We had a GREAT time! We ended up getting a hotel room and spend some time with friends (without kids). It was a much needed parent break for all of us. I really do have great friends.

We are prepping to go to the beach with friends in a couple weeks. We've not been to the beach since Henry was about 14 months old, so this is a much needed trip. But we know it will be hot. Everyone will have hats and sun shirts and more sunscreen than you can imagine. It will be such a great time. The Blue Angels will be performing the weekend we are there. The kids will love it, but I think Scott is more excited than anyone.

Once we get back from the beach, we will visit a friend in Gainesville, GA the following weekend. What a great time we will have! I think a much anticipated trip to IKEA will be tops on the to-do list while we are there. Yippee!!

So, that is our world right now. Crazy. Busy. Wonderful. Once all our trips are out of the way, we begin to prepare for school again. It begins here August 13th. BOTH of my kids will be in school. I'm having a hard time with this, so I'll just be honest with you. Makes me nauseous to even think about Henry starting school. Abby is a little nervous because she never knows if there will be someone she knows in her class. She will be fine. She is a great student and is very adaptable. Henry will be fine, but I just need to convince myself a little more. Praying for strength!

I am sooooooo jealous! Jealous of you going to the beach, jealous of you going to IKEA, jealous of the heat...no, wait...not jealous of that. I have plenty right where I am! :)

I really do want a trip to the beach...reeeeeally bad. It comes to mind every day. Sigh...think of me when you're playing in the sand and surf. : )

This trip is actually a big blessing. Our friend travels for work and has lots of hotel points. We are going to Destin with him and his family and will not have to pay for our room. The hotel also offers free breakfasts, so we only have to cover meals and any activities we do. We are very thankful for our friends and the fact that they asked us to join them. I'll think of you.
